Sweaty Armpits
It is strongly recommended that one must first explore conservative measures before going for surgery.The most commonly found excessive sweating complaint is about sweaty armpits. In every society we find lots of people suffering from armpit sweating.
This condition is also popularly known as axillary hyperhidrosis. Studies reveal that in about 40% of the cases it is found with excessive hand sweating or palmar hyperhidrosis. In some cases armpit sweating can be found alone too.
Excessive armpit sweating appears at around puberty and continues as a seriously impairing problem affecting one's social life severely. Very often the sufferer will have to change clothing two or three times a day. Sometimes a person will have to limit his or her clothing to a few colors which will help them hide the sweaty armpits.
Just as in the case of other kinds of excessive sweating, excessive armpit sweating is caused by the over stimulation of the sympathetic nervous system. Some specific food items, stress, anxiety and emotional stimuli may aggravate the problem.
The patients may well remember that all human beings do have some armpit sweating. For about 1% of the people it involves extreme, irritating sweating, quite often involving dripping sweat in the armpit area. Quite often, such excessive sweating is resistant to deodorants and odor controlling substances.
In our attempt to control excessive sweating we must first of all explore simple solutions to control sweating such as the use of more absorbing clothes, dietary changes, or the use of medicated antiperspirants like Maxim or Drysol. Iontophoresis is yet another conservative method.
Though they may not stop sweating completely, you will at least know how to limit sweating.
The old surgical method was the excision of the sweat bearing areas of the armpit but that often led to serious side effects. Now, in suction curettage the sweat bearing area is scraped through very small incisions.
